I am always drawn to houses with shingles on them. I think it’s because I grew up in a home that had them. They take me back to my childhood, to a simpler time, a happy time.
We lived in a cul-de-sac or as we called it in those days, a dead end.
We knew all our neighbours, I remember when Mr Tyce would come home, I would jump in his car and we would do laps up and down the street, me in charge of the steering. I loved it!
Imagine doing that now, everyone’s minds immediately thinking “Ooh that’s weird, not to mention illegal!
But you could do that kind of things in those days, pretend to drive a car, sit in the boot, sneak into drive-in movies, play outside till dark, hell you could even ride your bike without a helmet.
Fast forward to 1986 and my parents divorced and we sold our home 😢. They sold it for $120k, boy do I wish I could buy it back. Today's approx value is about 2.5 million!
Fun fact: Peter Garrett (midnight oil) bought it from my parents. That was very exciting, I couldn’t wait to tell all my friends at school who was buying our house. #famous. I actually went back in the late ’90s and asked if I could go through the house as I really needed to go back, I think I needed to feel close to Dad as we lost him in 1988. Peter was lovely and showed me through when I explained the situation. He probably thought I was some mad stalker fan but let me through anyway.
Oh, the good old days, sigh, I hope my kids have as lovely memories of their childhood as I do of mine. ❤️ I think that’s what life is all about, creating happy memories. X
